What will happen if you fake a bartending reference in NYC?
I just got out of bartending school and am finding it really hard to get a job anywhere in brooklyn or queens, if i fake a reference what are the chances i'll get away with it? I got out of bartending school a year ago and know 200 drinks off the top of my head along with a bunch of wines.
Does an aspiring bartender absolutely have to go to a bartending school to have a chance at getting a job?
I kind of like the idea of becoming a bartender, and there are a couple cheap classes you have to take in my state to legally be able to do it. On top of that, there are a lot of ads and suggestions to take classes at an actual bartending school. The schooling isn't necessary for a license or anything.I've read from a lot of sources that bartending school graduates are annoying and over confident relative to non graduates who are new to bartending. I've read that the schooling merely teaches you how to quickly pour a drink and starts you off knowing quite a few mixes. On the flip side, I'd worry that no bar restaurant lounge would hire me if I didn't have a certificate from one of these schools. Especially in this competitive job market, would bartending school give me an edge over other applicants, or, conversely, would not attending a school make me a definite reject?LOL, Tanya, this is a Q& A site, not a poetry critique corner. I didn't ask for your opinion on my writing style. PThanks for the answer, Cassandra. I was thinking as much. Good to hear it from someone who knows.
I have a bartending interview at a hookah lounge it looks classy but not that serious, what do i wear?
So, I have this interview at this newly renovated upscale hookah lounge, the place has a beautiful bar along with Mediterranean food. I was planning on wearing a pair of dark skinny jeans with black pumps, and this really nice black long v neck fitted sweater with somewhat flairy sleeves which are about elbow length from the store guess, my hair will be flat ironed out and nice, and a nice pair of earrings. Is that nice, or should I dress more like black pants and a white shirt type of thing, only because I don't like wearing any sort of pants that are not fitted or skinny.I feel like the outfit I've chosen fits my personality, it's not revealing or would give a bad impression the first time. HELP
Regular bartending school vs. bartending school online?
Hey guys,I'm interested in going to a bartending school. I heard that it only takes a week until they give me certification if I pass all the tests. The regular bartending school would cost about a minimum of $400 while the online ones would only cost about a $100 more or less. I don't have anyone to hook up with to teach me and stuff, also, I want the certificate, so I really want to go to school for it. I just don't know what to do, if I should go to the regular bartending school or just do everything online. Please help
I have a bartending license, but this is my first job! I need advice, what are popular drinks I need to know?
I have a bartending license and all that, but got it in the summer,so i sort of forgot the whole 200 drinks i needed to memorize and all. I know most of the drinks since i go out, but this place is a hookah lounge and bar so im guessing all kinds of drinks will be served there. I just need some advice on how i should act and all that, just a bit nervous and all. and i need some popular drinks that def will be asked. THANKS
Is bartending for me?
the reason I ask is because I am an introvert. I have pretty good looks, Im a guy, but don't get out much. Ive worked in a number of bars before but only as a bar back.Do you think an introvert like me can make it as a bartender? Do any of you hold social related jobs and are similar in this way?
Going to start bartending?
I am 18, very attractive, and a very social person. Right now I work at a bowling alley with a bar and I just started training in the bar. I also have some experience working at Applebee's as well. With training, it seems IMPOSSIBLE I don't know many drinks and I keep forgetting how to make the drinks they teach me It's super fustrating cause it seems like Im getting no where lol. I want to someday work in a popular bar where I can make pretty good tips but as of right now, it seems like I can't get anywhere. Will I eventually get better and know this stuff like the back of my hand? Any advice is appreciated..
Should I go to bartending school or not? ?
I've read through the Q& A on here and the majority of the people say don't do it and that it's a waste of money. Then there were a few that went to school and were able to find jobs. The school is only $400 for two weeks and they set up interviews. I know this doesn't guarantee anything but I feel I could probably get a job with no experience since I'm college educated, have a good personality, and am professional. I don't have a strong desire to " work my way up" by bar backing or serving. I also don't want to work at a night club or fancy place. I would be content working at a small chill bar. Oh and I'm 28 year old guy living and working in orange county, CA. I'm currently working full time in commercial real estate. I'm looking to do it part time for now and possibly full time if I ever get laid off. I figure it would be nice option to fall back on at the very least. .
Do online bartending schools work?
dose anyone have any personal experience with online bar tending schools? did it work for you? any recommendations?I know you would have to work your way up but for learning about mixing drinks and stuff, if your working as a waitress in a bar your going to be doing just that not learing how to mix drinks and serve.

Is Bartending School a waste of money and how old should you be?
I am interested in being a bartender I just turned 16 this summer So, I intend on going to college, so I figured the best way to plan this out ahead of time is to get a job such as bartender as opposed to working as asales clerk at McDonalds or Footlocker or something, , lol I want to make a steady income before I attend College in the fall of 2010. And is it really smart to go to Bartending school, or would it be better to just buy a book and save the $500? for the course Or does it costs $500? And how long is the course? I've heard people say that they wasted thier money going to bartending school and never pursued it....Not to toot my own horn, but I figured since Im an attractive girl with a very animated personality, as cliched as it sounds I'm thinking maybe I could get hired fast.....Ok, before I ramble on some moreHere are my questions..... 1 In your opinion is going to Bartending school a waste of time? 2. Can I be 18 and serve drinks? In Michigan 3. How much are the courses and how long are they? 4. Does bartenders usually have flexible schedules? 5. Do they get hired alot?Another thing, do Bartenders really rely on tips? They don't get paid an hourly wage?Do they make a decent living?
