Hate to tell you this, but bartending school was nothing but a huge waste of time and money. Bartending school is a detriment rather than an aid to getting hired. I've hired a lot of bartenders in my time and whenever someone mentions bartending school or has it listed on a resume, the only conclusion that I draw is that the person has no experience. It's better to have a food handlers/ food safety certificate issued by your local department of health. Those actually mean something. And it will help you land a job in a restuarant/ bar. BTW-did you know that there is one thing that you can say in an interview that will impress the hell out of the interviewer?

You dont have to go to school... just a class to get certified in your municipality. You can get a job right away as a bartender, the main thing an employer will look for is experience, knowledge of how to make drinks and personality.

Sorry I am with Hugo. But what kind of bar do you want to start in? Maybe a place like Apple Bees. I don't even know if you have one where you live but it is mostly a food place. But they make some really different FuFu drinks that in a regular bar you probably would not. Anyway get that kind of experience then move on to a fun bar. Like a Sports Bar or Hip Hop Club you know young and fun. I wish you luck and the more experience you get the better job you will get.
