Bartending

Question: How do i get in to bartending?

The legal age in 18 in my state, and I'm a 19 year old girl. I have no experience and I don't want to go to a school or take classes because of all the negative things I've heard about them. I literally know nothing about the business, but I'm very interested in it. I like quick paced jobs, I'm easy going, and I love talking to people, working hard, and making money. If you could point me in the right direction, that'd be terrific. Thanks.

Being a bar-back is a good thing, but there is a better way... Ask to be trained by an expereinced bartender... After spending a few nights with someone who has been doing it for sometime, you will start to catch on quick... Bars have there own style, some bars are beer and shot bars, other bars are more mixed drinks, and a few are both, I recommend starting in more a beer and shot bar, because it will help build your skills with people, and still teach you how to make the basic drinks. I have trained many bartenders. I do not recommend the schools for bartending, they are a waste of money. ask questions and remember that will screw up a lot..

The best i can say is too go to the local bars, usually during the day, and ask the manager if they are looking for a bar-back. you would help with stocking the bar and getting beer and easy drinks and eventually you would work your way up to being a bartender. the best way to learn is through experience.

School is your best bet and work on the side in a bar.
